New Developer for Casino Needed At Rockaway Beach
On Monday, the city of Rockaway Beach took a step in the direction of building a "mixed-use facility that would comprise a casino," while preserving the capital the city already has on the lakefront. The Board of Aldermen approved a resolution to send letters to developers with the intention to attract them to construct a facility that would contain a casino in the city of just under 700 people.
Mayor Tom Strom predicted that 86% of the city's inhabitants still wanted to follow the building of a riverboat casino. He also said he felt that developers would still be paying attention in coming to the area. "We'll probably send out 15-20 letters. That's about how many we sent out previous time," Strom said. "Last time we had quite a few developers interested, and I see us having that once more as well."
